Not every family activity has to be an elaborate outing. Sticking around the Lodge and just "hanging out" can be just as fun too! Just don't let the TV, computer, and video games become a distraction because you will not find this at Your Home On The Range!
Being flexible is also sound advice, believe us! Sometimes family activities don't go as planned and this can burn you out. The baby can be tired from the long trip, one of you maybe just too tired from a busy work week, or it rained when it was supposed to be sunny and hot!

Do the WWWW as you take a walk or hike within and around Sunnyside, do chores together and you will be amused by your own creativity! Blend with the sounds of nature, make sure the birds keep you company too and join along with you!
We are a blended family with two boys, ages 6 and 9 years old. One popular family activity is called "Comedy Night". The two boys will turn the family room into a comedy night club and then perform funny skits and comedy acts. We all end up having lots of fun and lots of laughs. Plan your activity at the back lawn next to the Octagon and Couple this with a Barbeque evening, making your family fun night all the more appetizing!
Helmets on, and its hey ho for the winding roads! Go for a family Cycling tour and we will provide you with bicycles at no additional cost (For Dad, Mom and two children ages between 5 - 12)! Push your way up to the Ella Gap and absorb the beauty of creation and then come whizzing down the mountain, never to be experienced moments! Or take a ride to the sleepy town of Ella and see how simple lives exists. Carry your camera in a haversack together with some water and food, just in case you chose to ride further away!

Don’t forget to comment on this in our ‘Family Blog’ and do add your pictures too!
On most evenings, we plan to have dinner with the kids as a family. If Dad is caught up in work (which he tries to minimize) Mom has dinner with the boys. On regular occasions while we are enjoying dinner together, we take turns in sharing "the best thing that happened to me today" and "the worst thing that happened". It is wonderful to hear what happened in everybody's day. And also to see that there are good and not as good things happening all the time. Try this out during your stay at Sunnyside (if you are not doing this as a family) and... don’t forget to comment on this in our ‘Family Blog’!
Play tennis at your private tennis court! If you do not know how to play this game, start reading about it and give it a go! We will provide you with racquets and balls and what’s more, we do not charge rent! If you have your Tennis gear, remember to pack it and bring it along!
Choose a theme for hiking/walking. Collect leaves, wild flowers, identify birds and look out for some wild animals as you walk around the gardens of Sunnyside or even outside our gate, or create a treasure map. Capture pictures of the family on a hike/walk; write down thoughts and stories from the hike/walk for your memories. And..if this activity did draw attention, don’t forget to comment on this in our ‘Family Blog’!

Kids are intrigued with nature and will often welcome the idea of creating a garden of their very own, especially a vegetable garden. Vegetable gardens give kids the opportunity to explore all parts of the growing process, from the depths of garden soil to the bounties of garden crops that soon follow. And all the while, their hungry curiosity about the natural world is being fed.
Develop a list of all the wildlife (birds & animals) you will see at Sunnyside or in the neighborhood. Go for a walk as a family and see if you can find your list of wildlife. You will surely be surprised to discover many rare species!
This is a rock Squirrel, look out for their family at Sunnyside!
Judge ‘new’, ‘rarely’- or ‘never-before-tasted’ foods (fruits, vegetables, healthy recipes, other healthy foods) at Sunnyside by choosing 3 similar types of food and have family members rank them 1 for the best, 2 for good, and 3 for not as good. Count up all of the points for each food. The food with the most points is now the new “Food Idol” during your vacation and if this activity did draw attention, don’t forget to comment on this in our ‘Family Blog’!
A vacation time can be deemed No-Electronic vacations. No screen time-for anyone! A lot more book reading and family or sibling games happen, and it's peaceful! After all, its only at vacation time this can be done! We have a few books and board games in our Library that may be of some help but do pack a few of these before beginning your journey to Sunnyside!
